For those of you who don’t know me, I’ve always had a bit of a “potty mouth.” I’m not ashamed that I do and believe it’s each person’s right to speak however they want.
I admit that my use of curse words can make me sound ignorant, but that reflects on me and shouldn’t be an issue to someone else.
The only time that the use of foul language offends me is when people in power use it. One example that recently upset me was the use of a curse word on ABC.
There are two new shows on ABC that hint at the b-word in the title. The first is the show “GCB,” which stands for “Good Christian B’s.” The other is called “Don’t Trust the B—- in Apt. 23.”
Now I’ll admit I enjoy both shows quite a bit. GCB is a new guilty pleasure and will take over for Desperate Housewives as my favorite primetime soap opera when Housewives has its series finale this spring.
“Don’t Trust the B—- in Apt. 23” is a great comedy that just premiered on ABC. It’s no “Modern Family” or “How I Met Your Mother,” but it’s an entertaining show worth watching and getting a few laughs out of.
Like I said, I have no problems with the shows, but I have a problem with the titles.
I don’t think any foul language should be use in the title of a TV show that is on network television. If it were on cable, I would understand that and be ok with it.
The main reason I have a problem with it is because of what children will see and think. The other day when I was watching the news, I saw an advertisement for “Don’t Trust the B—-.” There is no way for a parent to monitor what commercials could potentially come up while a child is watching the news or an appropriate TV show.
I understand that the words can be said in the show, and I’m fine with that. Parents have a much easier task of monitoring what shows their children watch compared to what commercials show up during appropriate shows.
I also think the use of the words is just a ploy for attention by ABC. People see the word in the title, and it draws them in. The audience wants to watch a show that was brave enough to use a curse word in the title.
I understand that this probably makes me sound like one of those crazy, overprotective people who think that there should be no foul language anywhere, but I just think there is no use for curse words in the title of any TV show. There are plenty of other titles the two shows could have been named.

GCB stand for Good Christian Bells.
