Halloween is just around the corner, and what better way to get ready than with something spooky like a Ouija board?
That’s what my friends and I decided to do this past Sunday. We had been talking about it for a while, so we finally decided to do it.
Now first of all I want everyone to know that I have never believed in stuff like ghosts or spirits.
One of my roommates did believe in that stuff, so he didn’t want to do the Ouija board in our house. I thought there’s no way we’re going to get connected to a spirit, so I offered to do it in my room. Bad decision. Very bad.
We set the board up on a table in my room and were ready to “speak” with a spirit. A friend of mine and I were the first ones to do it.
At first, we asked the spirit if it knew who we were and the planchette moved to yes. At first I just thought, “Oh my friend has to be moving it.”
Then I asked it some questions that only I knew, and it answered them correctly. This freaked me out. I got goosebumps and almost didn’t want to continue. But I decided to stick with it and see what happened.
I asked things like the names of my deceased great-grandparents, the name of my first girlfriend, the name of my first pet, and other questions like that. The board went to every single answer correctly.
At that point I almost didn’t know what to do. Everyone there could see the fear in my face every time the board answered one of my questions.
One person in the room said that I was moving it to the answers myself. I promised him and can promise anyone that I was not moving the piece to the answers at all.
After I was fully freaked out, we decided to stop asking questions about me and ask the spirits questions about itself. We asked its sex, and it was a male. Then we asked his name, and he only gave us the initials ES.
Once I found out that the spirit’s last initial was “S,” I got to thinking. I remember that someone had told me that Sternberg used to live in the house we now rent. We never found out if the spirit was a Sternberg, but it seemed liked too much of a coincidence to not be true.
We asked the spirit if he died at our house. The spirit answered yes. I then asked how he died, and it spelled out the word hung. I then started saying different rooms in the house to see if ES had hung himself in that room. My fear was that it would say my bedroom.
My room is in the attic and is already kind of a creepy place.
Luckily for me, the spirit said he had hung himself in the main floor living room.
After this we decided to stop talking to the spirit, and we went our separate ways for the night. I was way too freaked out at this point to sleep in my room that night.
I decided to sleep in one of my roommate’s rooms because I didn’t want to be alone.
We were sitting, talking and watching Family Guy when all of a sudden we heard what I would call the loudest banging noise I’ve ever heard. It was three loud bangs and sounded like it was coming from the living room. We went out in the living room to investigate and found nothing.
At this point I couldn’t even control myself because I was so consumed with fear. I was covered in goosebumps and shaking like crazy.
We decided to just go sit in my roommate’s room with the door locked and see if anything happened.
We have yet to find out what the sound was, and I’m not convinced that it wasn’t ES.
The weird thing about the banging was that it couldn’t have been someone trying to get into our house because all of our doors were unlocked and someone could easily have gotten into our house.
I am now officially a believer in Ouija boards and talking to spirits. If you are easily scared and don’t want to be fully freaked out, then do not ever get close to a Oujia board.

Silly boy, do not raise up what you cannot put down.
Help is available but you’re better off not playing with such things.
