Both Fort Hays State University cross country teams had high placings at the Planet Sub Invitational on Friday at Emporia State University. The men’s team placed second, and the women’s team placed third.
The women were led by sophomore Kylie Gaughan, who placed eighth in the 5K race with a time of 18:50.
The next three runners for the Tigers finished within five seconds of each other. Freshman Alex Nelson, senior Heidi Hines and freshman Hannah Robinson finished with times of 19:39, 19:43 and 19:44, respectively. The last point-scorer for the Tigers was sophomore Carman Hill, who ran a time of 19:50.
The Tiger men’s team had two runners place in the top ten at the invitational. Junior Alex Hendee placed sixth with a time of 25:49 at the 8K course, while freshman Cory Keehn placed seventh with a time of 25:52.
Sophomore Isaac Mills was the third runner for the Tigers with a time of 26:32. The last two scoring runners for the Tigers were junior Danny Simon and sophomore Chase Killer. Simon ran a 27:13, while Killer had a 27:39.
Both Tiger teams will stay at home this weekend for the Fort Hays Tiger Open at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the Fort Hays cross country course.
