Whenever the University Activities Board holds an on campus event, I always have to attend. Whether it’s After Dark or any other activity, UAB always seems to find a way to attract a large crowd to its events.
On March 6, UAB held a night of electronic bingo and this was no different. For each bingo that was won, participants would receive a prize. Prizes that were awarded included were an XBOX 360, three iPod shuffles, an iPod Touch, Beats by Dre earbuds, 32′ LED TV and a Blu-Ray player.
When an audience member received a bingo, they would be awarded the prize that they were playing for that round. Each person could only win one prize at the event.
As I covered this event, I decided to try my own luck at electronic bingo. The first round consisted of a frame (all of the bingo spaces around the card). I have to admit I was horrible the first go around. When the bingo was called for that round, I only had about 3 or 4 on each of my frames.

The next few rounds my luck never seemed to improve. Of course, I was close to getting a bingo a couple of times, but was never able to win.
In a round after this, we were playing for a regular bingo. Again, I was close but did not get an actual bingo. However, the host called for us to hold our cards as we would try for a “double bingo.” As I looked down at my card, I saw that I only had three more spaces to fill to get this.
The next number that was called, I was able to fill on my card. Now I only needed two more spaces to get a “double bingo.” A few numbers were called, and eventually I found myself winning the double bingo.
As I result of my win, I was granted an iPod touch. What a coincidence right? I get assigned to cover this event and I walk away a winner! Upon my win, I was unable to continue playing as I had already won.
Overall, I would say UAB put on a successful event (and I am not just saying that because I won). As usual, they seemed to attract a full house in Cody Commons, along with making the event enjoyable.
I hope to enjoy my iPod touch that I won covering this. For those who want to join in the fun at UAB, they will be co- sponsoring After-Dark on March 8 at 9 PM in Cody Commons. The theme of the night is 80′s night.
